What is EFT?

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is a method for safely releasing unwanted negative or painful, emotions, thoughts and feelings such as sadness, fear, anxiety, anger, guilt, shame, hurt, grief, bitterness etc. EFT relieves the emotional intensity associated with anxiety, fears, phobias and is used to “neutralize” unpleasant or traumatic memories.Otherwise known as “Tapping”, EFT  is a simple technique of lightly tapping on specific points on your body, while focusing on how your emotions are felt in the body.  Often known as “Energy Psychology”, EFT works on your body’s own energy system and is used widely as both a self-help tool and therapeutic treatment option to help reduce and often totally eliminate emotional and physical discomfort.

How Does EFT Work?

We all feel emotion in our body.  Have you ever suddenly clutched your chest when faced with a fright?  Do you rub your temples when stressed, or maybe tap your chest when you are feeling anxiety.  Interestingly, the human body instinctively already knows what EFT is.  You do these things unconsciously to relieve stress.  EFT practices this in a much deeper way, using the very energy channels naturally occurring in your body to de-stress, heal and comfort you.eftBy tapping on the end points of the body’s energy meridians (while thinking of a specific issue),  you spark pulses of energy around your body,  The process rebalances the body’s natural energy system in relation to the issue you are focusing on.  While it may look strange to some, the process enables the brain to process information about a particular issue.  Lifelong issues such as grief, fear, anxiety, anger and more are resolved in a very short time while bringing in a whole new feeling of peace and letting go.

Where did EFT come from?

EFT was developed in the early 1990s by a man by the name of Gary Craig.  Many of the concepts underlying EFT came from Gary’s training in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Thought Field Therapy (TFT) under the tutorship of Dr. Roger Callahan.  Gary discovered while working with a client who had a fear of water that by tapping on these more generalised “meridian points”  she was able to permanently overcome her phobia, and happily get into a swimming pool, something she had never been able to get near previously.  Gary has been teaching this technique for many years, and the knowledge, use and professionalism of the technique has grown exponentially.While TFT involves the use of 10 or 15 individualised tapping routines (algorithms). EFT differs f in that it employs only one basic recipe so simple anyone can learn it, even a child.  Once learned, many issues can be overcome, never to return.

Is there any science behind EFT?

EFT has been researched extensively and is deivered with a clinical approach.  Studies by Dr Bruce Lipton, a globally recognised Biologist and Epigeneticist have proven without a shadow of a doubt that stress, anxiety, fear, anger and other extreme emotions have a strong impact on the expression of genes.  Cancer cells have been proven to turn on and turn off subject to the prescence of ongoing stress factors.  Stress has an impact on heart attacks, fybromyalgia, PTSD, chronic illnesses and more.

While not a panacea for all illnesses, and certainly not a cure, EFT has been clincially proven to have a positive effect on many conditions.  Research on some of these conditions can be found here.

Do I need special training

Let’s face it, no man is an Island.  We all need help with something.  The truth is you can learn EFT and use it to get beyond your emotional baggage, create carity for yourself, enhance performance, get over nerves, or just about anything.  However if you need deeper support, we recommend you work with a trained Practitioner, who is skilled at helping you get deep into the root of an issue and releasing it quickly.Typically, the result is lasting and a person’s awareness (cognition) usually changes and new perceptual insights (cognitive shifts) into the problem become apparent as a natural result of the application. It is therefore an ideal personal healing tool for letting go of unwanted and/or repressed feelings and emotions. This has enormous implications for bringing about profound and lasting personal changes.

The process is completely natural, painless, versatile and simple to learn and apply. Is EFT a spiritual thing?

While many EFT Practitioners are in deed spiritual people, we work with you at the place that feels most comfortable for you.  We recognise that you are a human being, with very human thoughts, feelings and emotions.  No matter how much you try to sweep some issues under the rug and pretend they are ok, often those very things are having an impact on you emotionally, spiritually and physicaly.  As a whole person, you can not escape that side of yourself, and when you experience the shift of letting go, that question is likely to not matter any more.

Is EFT good for children?

The beautiful thing about children is that they are unencumbered by the need to “fit in” They learn through life that survival may mean taking on other peoples beliefs and concepts but while they are children, they are very open to healing and learning.EFT is very powerful for children for that very reason and you may see an marked increase in behaviour changes as a result of using EFT.  Try it with the whole family.

Can anyone train as an EFT Practitioner?
